James Gandolfini began his career on Broadway after college & in 1993 landing a major acting role in True Romance. By 1999 Gandolfini was cast in the TV series The Sopranos, which was a groundbreaking American crime drama created by David Chase, centered on Tony Soprano (played by Gandolfini), a New Jersey mob boss who struggles to balance the demands of his criminal organization with the complexities of his personal & family life. The show ended in 2007 & he continued in film / TV & returned to Broadway. Gandolfini has been nominated for numerous awards & is a Globe Award winner, has 5 Screen Actors Guild Awards & is a 3x Emmy Award winner. In 2013 he passed away & was heavily mourned with New Jersey state buildings flying flags at half-staff as well as dimmed marquee lights on Broadway theaters.
