In Gotham City, crime runs rampant, & a mysterious vigilante known as Batman begins to strike fear into the hearts of criminals. Bruce Wayne, a wealthy industrialist, secretly leads a double life as Batman, using his resources and skills to fight crime. The story intensifies when gangster Jack Napier falls into a vat of chemicals during a confrontation with Batman & is transformed into the insane and sadistic Joker. With a grotesque grin & a flair for chaos, the Joker begins terrorizing Gotham with deadly schemes, including poisoning consumer products. As Batman investigates the Joker’s plans, he also develops a romantic relationship with journalist Vicki Vale, who is trying to uncover Batman’s true identity. The film builds a dramatic showdown between Batman & the Joker at Gotham Cathedral, where Batman ultimately defeats the Joker & reveals himself as the city’s protector.

Keaton plays the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Basinger plays the journalist who becomes the romantic interest of Batman.
