The Batman TV series follows Bruce Wayne (played by Adam West), a wealthy entrepreneur & his young ward Dick Grayson (Burt Ward) who secretly operate as Batman & Robin, the crime-fighting “Dynamic Duo” of Gotham City. Whenever the Gotham City Police Department faces a criminal they can’t handle, Commissioner Gordon (played by Neil Hamilton) contacts the duo via the Bat-phone, sending them into action from the secret Batcave beneath Wayne Manor. Each episode centers on Batman & Robin confronting one of Gotham’s supervillains such as the Joker (Cesar Romero), the Penguin (Burgess Meredith), the Riddler (Frank Gorshin), Mr. Freeze (Eli Wallach) or Catwoman (Julie Newmar, Lee Meriweather, & Eartha Kitt). These villains typically arrive with themed henchmen & elaborate, often comically over-the-top schemes. The heroes use their “utility belt” gadgets, detective work, & signature “Bat-logic” to follow clues, solve riddles, & foil criminal plots.
