Dallas was a hugely popular prime-time soap opera that aired from 1978 to 1991. It followed the wealthy Ewing family, who owned a major Texas oil company (Ewing Oil) & lived on the sprawling Southfork Ranch near Dallas, Texas. Its most famous character was J.R. Ewing (played by Larry Hagman), a ruthless & manipulative oil tycoon whose schemes drove many of the storylines. The series became a global phenomenon & is especially remembered for the legendary "Who Shot J.R.?" mystery in 1980, one of the most famous TV cliffhangers of all time.
