In the late 1940s Lucille Ball & Desi Arnez would elope & by 1951 set off to stardom with the I Love Lucy sitcom. The show was the very 1st scripted program with a live audience & became one of the most successfully viewed television programs, widely regarded as one of history's most influential sitcoms. The show follows Lucy Ricardo (played by Lucille Ball), a lovable, imaginative, often mischievous housewife, Ricky Ricardo (played by Desi Arnez), her Cuban bandleader husband & their neighbors / best friends, Ethel (played by Vivian Vance) & Fred Mertz (played by William Frawley). Most episodes revolve around Lucy’s hilarious attempts to break into show business, help her husband’s career, or tackle everyday situations that quickly spiral into chaos thanks to her over-the-top ideas.
