Clemente was a right fielder who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for 18 seasons. In 1972 he passed during a plane crash prompting the National Baseball Hall of Fame to update the rules so a deceased player could be eligible for induction after 6 months. In 1973 Clemente, as the first Caribbean native, was posthumously inducted.
