The Facts of Life was a long-running sitcom, a spin-off of Diff’rent Strokes & became one of NBC’s most successful comedy series of the 1980s. The series centers on Mrs. Edna Garrett (played by Charlotte Rae), who begins as the housemother & later becomes a dietitian at Eastland School, a fictional all-girls boarding school in Peekskill, New York. Her role is to guide a group of teenage girls through the ups & downs of adolescence, offering emotional support, moral lessons, & plenty of humor along the way. The main girls she focused on were Blair Warner (played by Lisa Whelchel) wealthy, popular, & sophisticated, Dorothy “Tootie” Ramsey (played by Kim Fields) enthusiastic & nosy, often seen on roller skates, Natalie Green (played by Mindy Cohn) funny, optimistic, & thoughtful & Jo Polniaczek (played by Nancy McKeon) a tough, street-smart tomboy.
